TFN Warriors Cica Tahalo
Tahalo was born in 2010 and is the first foal out of our mare, MeSesko. This little fella is full of personality! I have to take a minute to explain his name. We have had several foals here at Three Feathers over the years, but I have never witnessed so much commotion while still in the womb from any of our other foals! His poor first time mama, MeSesko! I could see her in the pasture from our bedroom window, her whole body jolting and shaking from all the bouncing around he was doing in there! From these observations, I predicted a BOY- and I was right! Even before his arrival I was thinking of names like "wild child", etc that would be fitting of this rambunctious baby boy about to be added to our herd here at Three Feathers. We like to give our horses names in Lakota in honor of their rich Native American Heritage, but, sometimes it is a bit difficult to find a Lakota name that translates that is fairly easy to spell, say and even remember for those of us who didn't grow up speaking the language! Meanwhile, he made his entry into the world. We were lucky enough to be present for the event. About 5 minutes after he had been born, he was already up on his feet and his mama had decided to lie back down to rest from the ordeal. He got this funny look on his face and then jumped up and landed on her back, all four legs sprawled over her in every direction! I had put the lens cover back on my camera and was desperately trying to get it off and get a shot, but I missed it! I got a shot of him sliding off of her with his feet straight up in the air! (See below!) Now, what name would be fitting of such a funny and feisty little fella?? The name we chose is Cica Tahalo, which means "The Rawhide Kid" in Lakota Sioux. Tahalo is going to be one eye-catching guy! He is a beautiful buckskin dun with all the markings including a dorsal stripe, leg bars, dark points and two-toned mane, etc, but also has a few small white spots enough to be labeled a pinto! He inherited his sire Nagi's beautiful wide white blaze and he has a white tail! Cute, cute guy!! As rambunctious as he was in the womb, he is proving to have inherited both his sire and his dam's extremely calm and intelligent personalities. He is very sensitive and his ground training even at this early stage is going very quick and easy as he is eager to please and be your partner. Can't wait to train him under saddle!! You can see more adorable baby photos of him on my Facebook page until I get them added here to our website!
